About Us
Message from the Chair
Welcome to the VRQA website. I hope this site will provide you with information about the VRQA and answers any questions you may have.
The VRQA is created under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. It is responsible for the regulation of education and training providers and qualifications in Victoria from home schooling to higher education.
The VRQA regulatory practices are based on a style that is proportionate to risk; minimises duplication with other compliance requirements; a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all education sectors; and focuses on quality assurance, not quality control.
The VRQA is a statutory body with 13 Board members who have been appointed to the Board because of their expertise in education and training. The VRQA is accountable to the Minister for Education (for schools) and the Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation (for tertiary providers).
The VRQA offers a major benefit to the Victorian education and training system because of the breadth of its responsibilities. Prior to its establishment, many providers had to deal with multiple regulators across education sectors. Now the VRQA’s streamlined approach to regulation offers the possibility of a considerable easing of the regulatory burden on providers.
As you explore this website you will find further information on our responsibilities and functions. We are keen to hear from our stakeholders and encourage you to Contact Us with your questions and comments.
