Stephen Elder became the Director of Catholic Education in Victoria in 2006. Stephen is on the Senate of Australian Catholic University, a Director of Catholic Network Australia, a Director of the Board of Management of Church Resources, member of the Board of Catholic Development Fund, a Director of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria, a Director of the National Catholic Education Commission and the Secretary of Catholic Capital Grants.

Stephen is also a Director of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership. He has also been a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 1999 in the Seat of Ballarat North and Ripon. During this time, he occupied the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Education.
