Purpose of course accreditation
Accredited courses address skill requirements for industry, enterprises and the community where these are not covered in nationally endorsed training packages. They also have the capacity to address changes in skill needs, and the needs of emerging and converging industries and industry skill sectors in a responsive manner.
The AQTF 2007 Standards for Accredited Courses identify the Standards that state accredited courses must meet. These are quite demanding because they are designed to provide society, the client and the copyright owner with the assurance that quality processes have been followed in development of the course.
The standards also need to be demanding because the accredited course document describes essential course information and provides the legal specification for the course. The course document is used by RTOs as a basis for designing the detailed delivery and assessment strategy for the course. It is therefore most important that information is clear and that all information is accurate.
