The Minister for Industry, the Hon. Ian Macfarlane MP has released a media statement to announce the passage through the Senate of the Student Identifiers Act 2014.
The legislation confirms that 1 January 2015 will be the commencement date of the unique student identifier (USI) scheme. The scheme will allow students to build an online record of their vocational education and training attainments and qualifications.
The Department of Industry will work with training providers and other key stakeholders over the coming months to assist with preparations for implementation. The USI system will be available for students and training providers to create and collect USIs from October 2014.
