A message from the Director

Welcome to the 11th edition of E-news. This is a special edition which focuses on recent changes in Commonwealth and Victorian legislation that will affect VET providers.

On 21 March 2011 the Education Services for Overseas Students Legislation Amendment Bill was passed and will commence after Royal Assent. We will outline for you the key features of these changes, which include a strengthening of registration requirements.

On 24 March 2011 the Australian Parliament passed three Bills that established the new VET regulator, to be called the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

In Victoria many provisions of the Education and Training Reform Amendment (Skills) Act 2010 (the Skills Act) will commence on 1 April 2011.This substantially amends Victorian legislation on VET regulation, TAFE governance and consumer protection for students. In this edition we will provide further detail about the provisions and information about their implementation and commencement.

The VRQA website will be regularly updated with information regarding legislation changes.

Establishment of the Australian Skills Quality Authority
 

On 24 March 2011 the Australian Parliament passed three Bills that established the new VET regulator, to be called the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). The VRQA website will be regulary updated with information regarding ASQA.
