A message from the Director

Welcome to the final VRQA e-news for 2013.

As I write this we are anticipating a top temperature in Melbourne of 40 degrees. It is an important reminder of the bushfire risks that schools face over the coming summer. The VRQA recently undertook a strategic review of independent schools’ compliance with the Guidelines for Registered Schools on Bushfire Preparedness and I would like to thank the schools that participated.

Following the implementation of new regulatory field services arrangements for apprenticeships and traineeships, earlier this month the VRQA hosted a workshop with BUSY At Work and stakeholders involved in apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria.

The event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to meet key BUSY At Work personnel and hear more about their role in the provision of regulatory field services for apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria.

The feedback from stakeholders at the session was constructive and thought-provoking and I look forward to continuing these conversations at further events to be held in 2014.

This edition also reminds readers of several matters that apply from 1 January 2014.

The VRQA values feedback about the information and resources it provides, as well as suggestions for future e-news articles. Feedback may be directed to vrqa@edumail.vic.gov.au.

I hope you have a happy and enjoyable festive season and look forward to working with you next year.

Lynn Glover
