In June 2017, the new Education and Training Reform Regulations commenced, replacing the 2007 Regulations.
Under the new Regulations, a transition period allowed existing schools to operate under the 2007 Regulations until 1 July 2018.
With the transition period ending, all schools must soon meet the 2017 Regulations.
For some schools, this means having all staff and governing authority members that fall within the Regulations' responsible persons definition complete a fit and proper person statutory declaration. Similarly, a declaration of a school's not-for-profit status also needs to be completed.
Schools should keep signed copies of the declarations on file so they can be provided upon request.
To help schools navigate the changes, we've produced a fact sheet outlining what schools need to do before 1 July.
