Registration

Registration of schools and education and training providers

The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) registers schools, and other education and training providers. Registration occurs when the VRQA is satisfied that a school or education and training provider meets required standards. The VRQA also monitors continuing compliance with these standards.

Registered schools and education and training providers will be listed on the State Register.

Registered schools offer approved curriculum for primary and secondary students from Prep to Year 10. A school caters for students in the compulsory years of schooling, the equivalent of Prep to Year 10. Registered schools can also offer senior secondary qualifications.

Senior secondary education can also be offered by other registered providers.

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), including TAFEs and private providers, are the providers of nationally accredited courses in vocational education and training (VET).

Registered higher education providers offer State accredited courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

The State Register will also show a provider’s scope of registration, that is the courses and qualifications a school or provider has been approved to deliver in:

Approval to offer courses to overseas students

Overseas students with a student visa must study with a school or provider registered by the Commonwealth. To be listed on the Commonwealth register, all providers operating in Victoria must first be assessed by the VRQA.
