As a parent*, you have the right to choose an appropriate education for your child.
In Victoria, parents can enrol their child at a registered school or register them for home schooling. Some parents do both. See
partial enrolments for more information.
Parents who choose to home school register their child with the VRQA.
Parents educating their child from home assume overall responsibility for their child’s educational program.
There’s a great deal of flexibility in the arrangements and you don’t have to follow any particular curriculum. It’s up to you.
In Victoria, home schooling families provide regular and efficient instruction, which taken as a whole substantially addresses the eight learning areas:
- humanities and social sciences
- the arts
- health and physical education
- information and communication technology, and design and technology.
