From 1 January 2018, parents applying to register their child for home schooling will submit their proposed educational program for their child, which includes a learning plan. The learning plan includes details of the subject matter that will be covered in the first year of registration and when and where instruction will take place.
The VRQA will provide learning plan templates, but using them is optional. There is no prescribed style for the learning plan. The learning plan is intended to prompt consideration of what educational program will most benefit your child.
The VRQA will also be reviewing around 10 per cent of families each year. In a review, you will be asked to provide evidence of educational progress against your child’s learning plan.
The VRQA will provide more information and guidance leading up to 2018. These materials will be developed in consultation with the Victorian Home Education Advisory Committee (VHEAC).
