Delivery of Elective and Stand-alone Units

An RTO may only deliver electives consistent with Training Package rules for the qualification/s the RTO is registered to provide on its Scope of Registration.

Note: Where the packaging rules include electives outside the host Training Package, the RTO is not required to apply for the individual units to be added on the Scope of Registration.

Delivery of stand-alone units

Scenario 1

An RTO can deliver a stand-alone unit of competency – without notifying or formally applying to the VRQA – that is:

  • any core unit
  • or elective unit

within the packaging rules of a qualification/s the RTO is registered to provide on its scope of registration.

Scenario 2

An RTO must apply to the VRQA if it intends to deliver a stand-alone unit of competency that is not a core or elective unit within the packaging rules of a qualification/s the RTO is registered to provide on its scope of registration by submitting Form B located on this website.

The VRQA will invoice the RTO for the relevant fee. On receipt of payment, the VRQA will assess the application and amend the scope of registration, if appropriate.
