Cancelling your apprenticeship or traineeship

There are slightly different rules depending on whether you are an apprentice or a trainee.

Important information: we regulate the training contract, not the employment contract. This means we have no power or authority to investigate or intervene when an employer decides to stop employing an apprentice or trainee.

For issues relating to your employment contract, see:

Cancelling your apprenticeship

When you start your apprenticeship, you will be on probation, usually for the first 3 months. During this time, if either you or your employer are unhappy then your contract can be cancelled.

After your probationary period ends, both you and your employer must agree before your contract can be cancelled.

If your employer does not agree, try to come to an understanding yourselves before contacting your Apprenticeship Network provider for help.
