Changed rules for schools with early learning centres

Changed rules for schools with early learning centresAmended regulations now allow schools to use money, other than government funding, and space within their property to conduct an early learning centre that is a feeder for school enrolments.

On 20 January 2020, the amended not-for-profit requirements in the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017 commenced.

The Minister for Education has provided clarity around the policy settings for the regulatory change and we are now updating our Guidelines to the Minimum Standards and Requirements for School Registration.

We are working in consultation with Independent Schools Victoria, the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria, the Department of Education and Training and other school systems to make the necessary changes.

To help schools through this period, we have deferred our independent school cyclical review program until the second half of the year. All schools scheduled for review have been notified.

We look forward to providing more information and support to all schools as we roll out the updated guidelines.
