VAGO report on child safe standards

The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) has tabled its report, School compliance with Victoria’s child safe standards. This involved an audit of the systems and supports that oversee school compliance with Ministerial Order No. 870 - Child Safe Standards - Managing the risk of child abuse in schools.

We welcome the VAGO report as an opportunity to reflect on the implementation of the child safe standards in schools, and are pleased with the reported feedback from principals.

A large majority of the principals who VAGO surveyed, across all sectors, agreed or strongly agreed that our guidance material clearly explains what schools must do to comply with the child safe standards and each of the ministerial order requirements.

Victorian schools are committed to ensuring the safety of their students. We will continue to work with our stakeholders to support their compliance with the child safe standards.
