You can suspend your apprenticeship training contract for a fixed period of time. The duration of the suspension will vary depending on the reason for the suspension.
You can apply to suspend your contract for up to 12 months for:
- a shortage of work (suspension may be granted for six-month periods)
- illness or injury (whether or not it is work-related)
- travel overseas
- maternity leave.
Discuss the suspension with your employer and make sure you both agree to it.
If your employer does not agree, try to come to an understanding yourselves before contacting your Apprenticeship Network provider for help.
